On Saturday May 9th the Roller Rebels Travel Team made the long trek up to Burlington Vermont to take on the Green Mountain Derby Dames, Vermonts one and only all female flat track roller derby league! New skaters and old skaters combined, representing the Roller Rebels all star Travel Team in the first victory of the 2009 Travel Team Season! The Rebels took the lead early as jammers C-Roll, Amaretto Sourpuss, and newcomer Muscles Marinara continuously racked up points on the scoreboard! The less experienced Derby Dames fell short 161 to 89, at the end of 3 twenty minute periods. The Rebels hope to continue the winning streak as they travel to Lancaster, PA on June 13th to take on the Dutchland Rollers in a WFTDA Sanctioned bout. This bout will also be played under the newly released 4.0 rules set by the WFTDA! Go Rebels!.

LONG ISLAND ROLLER REBELS ARE NOW RECRUTIING! If you are interested in becoming a LI Roller Rebel we are now accepting interested rollergirls and refs over the age of 21. Just commitment, dedication and a lust for playing and supporting the sport of all female flat track roller derby. We will teach you the rest! If you are interested in playing next season, the sooner you start skating the better!!! The Long Island Roller Rebels are proudly a part of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association. With over 68 member leagues the sport of Women’s Flat Track Derby has grown exponentially in a short period of time. Founded in 2004, the WFTDA promotes and fosters the sport of Women’s Flat Track Derby by facilitating the development of athletic ability, sportswomanship, and goodwill among member leagues. The governing philosophy is “by the skaters, for the skaters.” Women skaters are primary owners, managers, and operators of each member league and of the association. With an organized governing body the Roller Rebels plan on challenging other WFTDA member leagues and improving their rankings on a national level.

Each year the Long Island Roller Rebels will present the Season Champion with a Trophy in the name of Donna Joy aka Anita Fixxx. Donna was a skater on the Wicked Wheelers of the West who has past away on July 27th, 2006. Donna Joy was not only a teammate, but she was a true friend to us all and will never be forgotten. With the presentation of our trophy we hope to preserve her name and her memory amongst the future of the LI Roller Rebels. We love you Donna and we miss you.
