Why Sponsor the Long Island Roller Rebels and the Empire Skate Showdown?
Well let us tell you a little bit about what we have accomplished as a league. Since 2005 our league has worked our way up to bringing in a crowd of up to 1000 fans each game. Every year we find that number growing, keeping pace with the growth of roller derby across the country and internationally. Our demographic is broad and the exposure is priceless. Nostalgic derby lovers sit shoulder to shoulder with excited fans and cheering kids at Skate Safe America, LIRR’s official game venue, who also happen to sponsor us. On average our website has over 5,000 hits each month, and that doesn’t include the social networking sites we are on as well, such as MySpace, Facebook and Twitter.
The Empire Skate Showdown is bringing together 9 competitive teams, all from New York State, plus their fans and derby supporters, together under one roof for a full day of roller derby action. We expect to attract more than 2000 spectators throughout the daylong event, as well as over 200 skaters and support staff in attendance.
Where does the money go?
Putting on a tournament of this size requires the support and dedication of dozens of individuals, skaters and non-skaters alike, who volunteer their time and energy to plan and execute a successful event. However, there are significant costs to run a tournament such as venue rental costs, food, advertising and promotion, liability and extreme sports insurance fees, merchandising items and security just to name a few. Your generous sponsorship contribution will help to offset some of these expenses, and in turn you receive invaluable exposure as our sponsor. It is a win/win situation.
So what do you get out of it?
There are many different options for sponsors of the LIRR and the Empire Skate Showdown. We have tiers of sponsorship dependant on the size of the donation, but nothing with us is set in stone. We have so many different ways to promote your business and we want to find the one that’s most beneficial to you.

We know you’re out there and that you have what it takes to capture the non-stop action of our 2nd Annual Empire Skate Showdown! We need to know who you are so send us some links to your work and you can find yourself on the sidelines of derby action the likes of which New York State sees but once a year. In spirit of the Long Island Roller Rebels hosting the 2nd annual New York Skate Show down and the Men’s Roller Derby Association National Tournament to be held in Bethpage Long Island, there will be a photography exhibit showcasing the best of Roller derby photographs. Organized by Andreanna Seymore (aka Point and Shoot) from the Long Island Roller Rebels. September 3, 2011 to October 31, 2011.
8 photographers will be chosen to be in a group show to be held at the Empire State Studio in Oceanside New York for two months and work will be displayed at both the New York Skate Showdown and MRDA Tournament held at Bethpage New York.
If chosen Photographers are responsible for following the guidelines, including printing mailing or dropping off work. The gallery and hosting teams will have the right to take up to 20% fee of all images sold either at the gallery or at venue.
